summer time

Summer Activities

When the long winter finally releases it grip on the land, the change in scenery here is dramatic; new grass and leaves are vividly green, grazing animals with their young are out on the fields again and the lakes, free from their ice covering are alive with colour and reflected light. It is a beautiful time of the year!
If you are looking for crowded streets, shopping, and lively nightlife then Morgedal is not for you!! However if getting away from it all is more your style then you have come to the right place! Surrounded by steep hills and mountains - nature is always right out your backdoor.
Walking trails and mountain biking routes allow you to access true wilderness where time has another rhythm and the stillness can be deafening.

Fishing is free here on the lake in Morgedal and there are plenty of good eating Trout and Perch to catch. Canoes and rowboats can be used free of charge - you can pick up a key, oars and lifejackets at the Norwegian Ski museum. If you are a super keen fisherman or woman then go and visit the friendly staff at Morgedal Camping - they are the fishing experts so ask them all your fishy questions! They may also allow you to use their boats and try some net fishing.

Right now we are busy developing new trails and soon there will be many good options for the keen walker in Morgedal. If you enjoy real wilderness and can manage rough tracks and blazed trails then there are already some routes for you to explore out there. Ask at the museum for walk descriptions and simple maps.

You can hire good quality mountain bikes from the camping ground - the old road in Morgedal is a nice place to ride and there also are a number of good routes to explore. We are developing more trails and hope to build up some good single track here in the future. Hills are inevitably on the menu when you are out and about in West Telemark - so bring those hill legs with you when you set out on a ride! Some riding suggestions and basic maps are available from the museum.
