New Instructors for Morgedal

Over the last 3 years - Morgedal Development has taken the iniative and together with Norges Skiforbund has trained up 16 new telemark instructors to work on the local ski hill here and also as guides on the many historic slopes around Morgedal. Now in 2009 we have 4 new instructors working this season to complete their level one qualifications. We kick-started the new season with an excellent training weekend up at Rauland Ski Centre. Sondre Norheim honoured in Minot, USA

Representatives from Morgedal and Telemark are currently taking part in the annual Norwegian Høstfest - Autumn celebrations in North Dakota, USA. A yearly rememberence service is held in honour of Sondre Norheim - the father of modern ski sport who was born and lived in Morgedal but moved to America in 1884 and died there in 1897, buried at the Denbigh Church, North Dakota.

Skien in Telemark is a sister city with Minot and every year delegates from Telemark join the celebrations in Minot. Read more (Norwegian text)

Morgedal welcomes Chinese delegation

Visitors from the Chinese provence of Hubei spent time in Morgedal to discuss issues around eco tourism as part of the Hubei - Norway week 2009. Their day started with pulling up nets full of fish in the lake and included a tour to the birthplace of Sondre Norheim and learning about two bio heating units in the valley. Good connections were made and Morgedal hopes to welcome Chinese tourists from Hubei as soon as this winter.

Positive Prize to Morgedal!

Morgedal Utvikling has won the Inaugural Positive Prize for West Telemark. Awarded by Vest Telemarkblad this prize aims to applaud businesses, groups or individuals who have worked actively to create more life, business opportunities and active offers for both locals and visitors to this region. The board and staff of Morgedal Utvikling A.S and all the locals who are a part of this development project are delighted to receive this award.

Telemark Instructors

Telemark Instructors from Morgedal have spent an action packed  weekend up at Hovden in preparation for the winter season. 

Morgedal now has 12 local qualified Telemark instructors aged from ranging in age from 14 – 44.
The weekend was planned and set up by Morgedal Utvikling who are working to promote the sport of telemark here in Morgedal and are also keen to see as many people as possible get involved in providing quality activities for visitors to the valley.

Four new instructors started their level one training on the weekend and six of last years crew are now halfway through their level 2 training. Expert ski teaching was provided by the Norwegian Ski Federation and evening brainstorming sessions ensured that everyone in the group had their say about their vision for continuing to build an active ski culture here in Morgedal.

This winter telemark instruction will be offered every weekend, including a learn to ski free deal for the first 2 people to book their places every Saturday. All we need now is a bit more snow!!
