Morgedal is the birthplace of skiing, or to be more correct, ski sport...
People have used skiing as a mode of transport for over 4000 years. However in the 1800's downhill skiing as we know it today was influenced like never before by Sondre Norheim from Morgedal. Who was this charismatic character who changed ski design and gave us the world's first carving ski and full heel binding? Where did he live and what was it about the terrain he grew up in that so inspired him to develop skis and new techniques just for the pure rush of the downhill? The answers are waiting for you in Morgedal, this magic little Norwegian valley which gave ski sport to the world.

Night Skiing in Morgedal!
There is something extra cool about skiing at night under lights. Skiing in and out of shadows, senses heightened... it is a great experience! Now the hotel slope in Morgedal is lit up every Tuesday from 17:30 - 20:00. If you don't have a seasons pass it will only cost you 100kr (same price adult/child ) Weekends too: Also open every weekend from 10:00 until 16:00 - conditions are great, prices are even better and if you are a parent you can watch all the action while you can sit around the fire at our cosy shelter.... just bring some wood to help us keep it burning! New - old slopes in Morgedal
The view is awesome from the new Sondre shelter at the top of the historic hills Sondre Norheim made famous over 160 years ago. Here in Morgedal we have been working to clear and transform the world's first slalom slopes back to the condition they were when the wild and reckless hard man of inner Telemark played and experimented on their skis on these steep and challenging hills. These guys were the "new school 1850's" and they changed the way a whole world would ski. This winter - come to Morgedal and challenge yourself on the very same slopes. The lift system has not changed since those days - so do some training and fitness work before you come otherwise you may only manage one run! |

Ski play started here in Morgedal and this playful, creative and very individual approach to sliding on snow has now come home to Telemark with this new partnership offering the very best in park riding, free riding and of course offering the soulful heritage and essence of all this magic right here in the cradle of ski sport.
